STROKE Telemedicine
Liberty Regional Medical Center has partnered with St. Josephs/Candler to provide life-saving stroke assistance in Liberty County and the surrounding areas. Utilizing real-time audio and video conferencing, neurologists at SJCHS can assess a patient and communicate treatment plans directly with our ER physicians. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Access to Telemedicine services is critical for stroke because time lost is brain lost. Patients presenting with stroke require immediate attention and expertise in this field of medicine, services which are rarely offered in rural hospitals. However, through the use of audio and video, our Telemedicine service adds a neurologist to our rapid response team at Liberty Regional, providing better stroke care for our patients right here in our community.
According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. and the primary cause of adult disability. Approximately 795,000 strokes occur in the U.S. each year, resulting in medical and disability costs of almost $74 billion annually.

Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arms, or legs, often on just one side of the body- Sudden confusion accompanied by trouble speaking and/or understanding speech
- Sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes
- Sudden dizziness, lack of balance, and trouble walking
- Sudden severe headache
